Hi, my name is Kerrie Redgrave and I established the Sewing and Design Studio in 2009. I have always loved sewing and it has occupied a large part of my life. After teaching ‘learn to sew’ classes at community college, I also developed a love of teaching sewing and I have a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
I studied at the Dress Design Studio, East Sydney TAFE for three years and after graduating went directly into the fashion industry, working for twenty years as a Designer and Patternmaker.

“Your garments should look handmade not homemade”

My work in the fashion industry allowed me to become involved in every aspect of garment construction. I have always worked in the area of women’s fashion and enjoyed specializing in bridal wear for six years
Working with the idea that your garments should look ‘handmade not homemade’ I put a lot of emphasis on achieving a professional finish and a great fit. Having a fashion industry background, I like to implement the ‘tricks of the trade’ which replace many hand sewn finishes that today’s sewers seem to dislike.

“Sewing is my creative outlet and my classes and students are a constant source of inspiration”

Since starting the studio in 2009, I have seen massive changes in the home sewing industry. Today, the online sewing community inspires the home sewer with design, fabric and new sewing skills through social platforms such as Instagram and Facebook. We now have easy access to fabulous independent pattern companies and fabric stores, both local and from around the world.
I love sewing, I love fabric and I love teaching my classes. Sewing is my creative outlet and my classes and students are a constant source of inspiration.
